# Chronicle Portrait: Editorial Ink Stippling & Color

> Chronicle uses ink stippling, pen work, and flat color blocking — Bareface's most detailed portrait style, rooted in golden-age editorial illustration.

Chronicle is the most complex and labour-intensive portrait style in the Bareface collection, and the difference shows in every detail. Where other styles work in line or tone, Chronicle works in both simultaneously — hundreds of deliberate ink dots building the face with editorial precision, while bold flat colour blocking gives the clothing a graphic confidence drawn from the golden age of newspaper and magazine illustration. If you want a portrait that carries genuine artistic weight and makes an immediate impression, Chronicle is the one.

## Style Overview

The Chronicle portrait merges journalistic precision with artistic interpretation. Ink stippling and pen work render the face with editorial immediacy, grounded by sophisticated flat colour blocking in the suit. Hundreds of deliberate dots and controlled line work build texture, dimension, and character. The tailoring receives bold, geometric colour treatment with subtle paper texture.

The technique references the golden age of newspaper and magazine illustration, when artists elevated portrait work into cultural commentary. Each mark serves a purpose, each tonal shift carries intention. Leaders in media, publishing, and thought leadership find natural alignment here — as do those whose influence lives in ideas.

Chronicle is an ideal choice for:

* Leaders in media, publishing, journalism, and the creative industries
* Thought leaders, authors, and keynote speakers building a distinctive public presence
* Founders and executives who want a portrait that functions as a genuine statement piece
* Teams in industries where editorial credibility matters as much as professional polish

<Note>
  Chronicle is one of Bareface's bestselling styles and includes a Certificate of Authenticity with every order, confirming the portrait as an original hand-drawn work.

### Optional Add-On: Source File

A fully layered Photoshop document (PSD) is available as an optional add-on at checkout. Given the complexity of Chronicle's layered technique — stippled face work sitting alongside flat colour-blocked tailoring — the PSD is especially useful for design teams who need to adapt the portrait for different brand applications.

<Tip>
  Because Chronicle involves the most detailed hand work of any style in the collection, it's worth adding the PSD if you anticipate using the portrait across multiple formats or expect ongoing brand updates.

## Reference Photo Tips

Chronicle's stipple technique captures fine facial detail with exceptional precision. To give the artist the best material to work from:

* **Composition** — your face, neck, and upper torso should be fully visible and unobstructed
* **Lighting** — natural or professional lighting that illuminates your features evenly; avoid harsh shadows or overexposure, which can obscure the detail the artist needs
* **Sharpness** — a clear, well-focused image — the more detail visible in the reference, the more the artist can render in the stippled portrait
* **Expression** — submit the expression you want captured; expressions are drawn directly from the reference photo and are not adjusted during refinements

A good phone photo in even daylight works perfectly well.
