Some portrait styles are designed to project authority. Pencil Perfect is designed to invite connection. Each portrait in this style begins as a physical drawing — pencil on paper, worked by hand in the studio — before being carefully digitized and enhanced with colour. The result carries all the warmth and texture of traditional media while delivering the resolution and file flexibility you need for modern professional use. If you want a portrait that feels personal as well as polished, Pencil Perfect is the style to consider.

Style Overview

The Pencil Perfect style beautifully marries the tactile charm of pencil on paper with the limitless possibilities of the digital world. Each portrait is meticulously hand-drawn on paper before being digitized to add colour and enhancements. The pencil strokes remain visible in the final artwork, giving the portrait a quality that immediately reads as handcrafted — not generated, not filtered, not assembled from stock elements. This style works particularly well for:
  • Individuals who want a portrait that feels warm and approachable rather than formal
  • Creative professionals, consultants, and founders who want personality to come through
  • Personal brand profiles, author pages, and speaking bios where connection matters
  • Anyone who wants something that looks unmistakably human-made
Pencil Perfect is one of Bareface’s bestselling styles, consistently chosen by clients who want craft and character in equal measure.

What’s Included

Every Pencil Perfect order includes the following files, ready to download once you approve your portrait:
  • White background JPEG — 4072×3256px, ready for immediate professional use
  • Transparent background PNG — 4072×3256px, for flexible placement across any design context

Optional Add-On: Source File

Add a fully layered Photoshop document (PSD) to your order if you want complete creative control over the final artwork. Your design team can use it to adjust colours, isolate the pencil layer, or place the portrait directly into existing brand templates.
If you’re ordering for a team, the Trio or Studio bundles offer a better per-portrait price than ordering singles separately.

The Commission Process

1

Reference Submission

Upload your reference photo at checkout or any time after your order is placed. Every submission is reviewed personally before work begins. If a different photo would produce a stronger portrait, the studio will reach out before starting.
2

Artist Commission

Your portrait is assigned to a studio artist whose expertise fits the Pencil Perfect style. Working from your reference, they draw the portrait entirely by hand on paper before it’s digitized. No templates, no automation.
3

Review & Refinement

Once complete, your portrait is delivered for your review. Submit any feedback directly, and two rounds of refinements are included with every order before final approval.
4

Delivery

Once you approve the final portrait, your files are available to download from your account whenever you need them. The PSD is included in the same delivery if you added it.
Most portraits are completed within 7–10 business days. If you’re working to a specific deadline, contact Bareface before ordering to confirm availability.

Reference Photo Tips

For the strongest possible result, submit a photo that meets the following criteria:
  • Clarity — a clear, well-focused image where your face, neck, and upper torso are fully visible
  • Lighting — natural or even professional lighting, without harsh shadows or overexposure
  • Expression — the expression you want captured in the final artwork; this is drawn directly from the reference photo and is not adjusted during refinements
  • Framing — not cropped from a group photo, and not obscured by filters or heavy processing
A clear photo taken on your phone in good daylight works perfectly well.
